Here’s to Everything New!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you had a great time last night celebrating with loved ones.

I’m continuing my celebration with a new scent for the new year. I got a Tory Burch rollerball in a party cracker! Such a cute idea, and such a gorgeous scent.

How are you celebrating today?!

In My Bag

As I was getting out of my car the other day, I realized that my tote was awfully heavy. What could I possibly have in here, I thought, as I searched for my house key. I finally found it among a vast sea of receipts, multiple lip glosses, and even a couple leftover shopping bags.

As MTV Girl Code’s Shalyah brilliantly put it,

So with that thought, I cleaned out my bag and left only what I actually need… or what I think I might need in some kind of emergency that will never happen… maybe I should clean it out again!

Anyway, here’s what’s in my bag whether I need it or not!

C. Wonder Tote (Similar)

I bought this bag earlier in the spring after winning C. Wonder’s Instagram contest. (Now you know why I have so much from there!) This is the perfect bag for going to class or running errands. I like to keep a lot of stuff with me, and if my bag is too small I end up juggling everything in my hands. The cork is such a great neutral and the gold flecks are really eye catching.

Target Wallet

I bought this wallet a while ago to use as a wristlet, but my usual Lilly Pulitzer Carded ID Wristlet was too gross to photograph (oopsies). This one has plenty of room, but I think I might get another Lilly wristlet to replace my DZ one.

Sephora Blotting Films (Mattifying)

As I’ve said before, I have very oily skin. These sheets clean my skin right up and leave me feeling refreshed without messing up my makeup

5 Gum (Cobalt)

I am always terrified of having bad breath, so gum is always in my bag. I love 5 Gum because the flavor is strong and lasts for a pretty long time. Cobalt is a strong mint flavor.

Lilly Pulitzer Umbrella (Chin Chin)

This umbrella puts a pop of color into my rainy days. It opens and closes very easily and has a comfy handle. Perfection.

C. Wonder Sunglasses

These mirrored glasses are just the right amount of cool. They’re a little big, but I have a really small head!

Lilly Pulitzer Sunglass Case

I received this case last summer as a free gift with purchase. I love the print and it is super soft for my glasses. Lilly has the best gifts, so be on the look out for them.

I like to keep 4 Band-Aids in my bag just in case the shoes I’m wearing start to hurt.

Opti-Free Rewetting Drops

Since I wear contacts I have to be careful of not letting them dry out. A little bottle of eyedrops is all I need to be prepared.

Sniff Tissues

Again with the being prepared! These little piggies help me catch sneezes and spills.

Clinique Almost Lipstick (Black Honey)

I love this lipstick because it gives me a dash of color without having to put on real lipstick. Perfect for when I suddenly make lunch plans.

Sugar Rosé Tinted Lip Treatment

This chapstick makes my lips super soft and the slight lemon scent is amazing. It also has SPF 15 to protect me from the sun.

The Heather Blazing by Colm Tóibín

I am currently halfway through this book about an Irish judge and his affectionate reflections on his past. I am attempting to write an Honors Thesis on another Irish author, so this is “research” (English Major nerd).

Because you never know when you’re going to be sitting next to someone who doesn’t use their indoor voice on the train.

Lilly Pulitzer Agenda (Peelin Out)

This is the newest addition to my bag! I love love love Lilly agendas; I actually don’t know what I would do without mine…. probably forget everything!

New Scent Guide

I love finding new perfumes. I have my go to scents, but every once in a while I like to have something to spice up my day, and that’s where Sephora comes in. They always send great samples of different fragrances to try.

I tested some out and here is my New Scent Guide:

BVLGARI Omnia Indian Garnet

My Initial Reaction: Floral, Smooth

This perfume lasts all day, but is very subtle. Perfect for when you want to feel good and not overwhelm the people around you!

Notes of: Mandarin, Saffron, Indian Tuberose, Osmanthus, Indian Woods, Amber

Described as: Mysterious

TOCCA Colette

My Initial Reaction: Sweet and Spicy

This was a subtle scent that I caught a hint of whenever I brushed my hair out of my face. By the end of the day it had lost some of its spice, but remained nice smelling!

Notes of: Bergamot, Mandarin, Lemon, Juniper Berry, Pink Peppercorn, Jasmine, Violet, Cyclamen, Pine Needles, Incense, Musk, Sandalwood, Amber, Vanilla, Cedarwood

Described as: Seductive

Diane Von Furstenberg Diane

s1375229-main-heroMy Initial Reaction: Very Floral

This is a very strong floral scent, something I am not drawn to, but if you enjoy something more powerful try it out!

Notes of: Frangipani Blossom, Violet, Patchouli, Myrrh, Musk

Described as: Powerful

Coach Poppy

My Initial Reaction: Lightly Sweet

This perfume is lovely and light, but you do need to reapply. Perfect for a date!

Notes of: Cucumber Flower Petals, Mandarin, Baby Freesia Buds, Jasmine, Pink Water Lily, Southern Gardenia, Rose Petals, Crème Brûlée Accord, Cedarwood, Bleached Sandalwood, Vanilla, Whipped Marshmallow

Described as: Fun

Marc Jacobs Daisy

My initial Reaction: Floral and Sweet

I have always loved Daisy, from the packaging to the scent. It’s perfect when you need just a hint of sweetness.

Notes of: Strawberry, Violet Leaves, Ruby Red Grapefruit, Gardenia, Violet Petals, Jasmine Petals, Musk, Vanilla, White Woods

Described as: Eternal

Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh

My Initial Reaction: Refreshing, Slightly Floral

This version of Daisy is a little more floral, but still very classic and appealing!

Notes of: Natural Raspberry, Grapefruit, Pear, Violet, Wild Rose, Apple Blossom, Musks, Cedarwood, Plum

Described as: Exhilarating

Versace Bright Crystal

My Initial Reaction: Lightly Floral

This perfume is a classic light floral scent. It does need to be reapplied because of the delicate smell.

Notes of: Iced Accord, Yuzu, Pomegranate, Peony, Magnolia, Lotus Flower, Acajou, Vegetal Amber, Musk

Described as: Luminous

Versace Bright Crystal Absolu

s1602127-main-heroMy Initial Reaction: Slightly Stronger floral

Absolu is slightly more floral than the original Bright Crystal. It is by no means powerful like Diane, and has the same classic feel as Bright Crystal.

Notes of: Yuzu, Pomegranate, Raspberry, Peony, Magnolia and Lotus Flowers, Precious Vegetal Amber, Deep Acajou Wood, Musk

Described as: Vibrant

My Summer Scent

Perfume is something that always makes me feel a little more put together. Whether I’m going to a nice dinner with my boyfriend, or just to the store, it fills my surroundings with vibrancy. That’s probably what makes it so darn expensive.

I tend to lean away from heavy floral scents (possibly something to do with my horrid allergies) and gravitate towards anything sweet or fruity.

One of my all time favorite scents, and my typical go to, is Ralph Lauren Big Pony #2. Not only is it sweet with notes of Cranberry and Tonka Mousse, but it also happens to come in a pink bottle with a green pony (my favorites)!

Recently, I decided to spend some of my Sephora VIB points and get the 100 point gift: the Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black rollerball.

This is the beginning of a new brand by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, named after their other siblings and uses the idea of two contradictory personalities. Nirvana Black’s counterpart is Nirvana White (which hopefully I will get to try!).

You can definitely smell the notes of violet, sandalwood, and vanilla, but I disagree with Sephora calling it mysterious. To me, there is something familiar about it. Maybe that’s because my little sister always loved vanilla scented beauty products when we were young.

I put this on before going to the store the other day and I felt as if it was whirling around me. But in a good, not overpowering way.

The 100 point gift is little, but it is perfect to tuck in a purse. Plus, with perfume, a little goes a long way.

Summer Skin

Summer is the time when I am most happy with my skin. It isn’t too dry like in the winter, and I don’t feel the need to pile on makeup.

It took me quite a while, but I am finally satisfied with my makeup routine. I have even been trying some new products that I received from Sephora!

Disclaimer: I have combination skin that is oily in the summer, and I embrace my pale skin!

1. Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash Redness Soothing Cream Cleanser

I have tried many different face washes from Clean & Clear to Clinique, but this one is by far my favorite. It has aloe in it so during the winter it keeps my skin from drying out but it isn’t so oily that it makes me break out in the summer. Perfection!

2. Clinique Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion

This is technically step 2 of the Acne Solutions line. I currently use this clarifying lotion as well as the Emergency Gel (at night). This makes my skin feel so clean. It removes dead skin and leftover makeup after you wash your face, kind of like flossing for your skin!

3. Dr. Brandt’s Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer

This primer minimizes the look of your pores while also mattifying shine. I received a travel size sample from Sephora and though I love it so far, I am not sure I would pay $45 for it. I guess I’ll enjoy it while it lasts!

4. Benefit Cosmetics Fake Up Concealer

I also received this concealer as a travel size sample. It targets under eye circles and fine lines. I blend it under my eyes, which makes them feel brighter. It also hydrates your skin so it doesn’t crease.

5. L’Oréal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Concealer

This is a great concealer that actually does blend right in with my skin tone. I find it works best if you dab a bit on the spot you want to cover and then dab it with a finger to blend it in.

6. Clinique Stay-Matte Sheer Pressed Powder (01 Stay Buff)

I waited a long time to try powder foundation, and I wish I had done it sooner! I absolutely love this one because it is light, keeps my skin from getting too oily, and is versatile; you can get a lot or a little coverage depending on what you need. For lighter coverage I use my Sephora Collection Pro Flawless Airbrush #56.

7. Maybelline Mineral Power Blush in Gentle Pink – Discontinued

This probably means I need new blush… but I love it!

8. Sephora Collection Eyelash Curler

This is super easy to use and comes with extra silicone pads. I can’t go anywhere without curling my lashes!

9. Sephora Collection Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner (Matte Black)

I have always used Sephora eyeliner, and I love it. It goes on smooth and stays all day. The retractable version is great because I never have to sharper it or worry about it being too sharp.

10. Lancôme Hypnôse Drama Waterproof Mascara

This mascara makes my lashes feel a million miles long. It doesn’t smear at all and it takes a massive mistake on my part to make it clump.

11. Lilly Pulitzer Chapstick

For anyone who was wondering how this free gift turned out, the Chapstick is very smooth and smells like coconut! I love the Lobstah Roll print as well.
